COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY EDUCATION STATS (USA):
• In fall 2009, a record 18.4 million students are expected to attend the nation’s 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities, an increase of about 3.1 million since fall 2000.
• Females are expected to comprise the majority of college students, numbering about 10.5 million compared to 7.9 million males in fall 2009.
• The majority of students will attend full-time (an estimated 11.4 million for fall 2009), about 7.0 million are expected to attend part-time.
• About 7.2 million students are expected to attend public 4-year institutions, 6.5 million will attend public 2-year institutions, about 4.4 million will attend private 4-year institutions, and 0.3 million will attend private 2-year colleges.
• The record college enrollments have been driven by both increases in the traditional college age population and rising enrollment rates. Between 2000 and 2008, the 18- to 24-year-old population rose from approximately 27.3 million to approximately 29.9 million.
• During the 2009−10 school year, colleges and universities are expected to award 741,000 associate’s degrees; 1,634,000 bachelor's degrees; 659,000 master's degrees; 94,400 first-professional degrees; and 60,400 doctor's degrees.
